TLM Partner – Oklahoma Department of Corrections

Oklahoma Department of Corrections partnered with The Last Mile to bring its in-prison coding program to Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in February of 2019. This expansion into Oklahoma was made possible by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, George Kaiser Family Foundation, and the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation. The launch of this women’s facility was covered by Norah O’Donnell for CBS Morning News and featured Chan Zuckerberg.

Oklahoma has the highest incarceration rate in the world, according to the Prison Policy Initiative. This could change due to a new law which reduces some felonies to misdemeanors.
