Holiday Postcard Writing

As we count down the final days of 2024, we here at The Last Mile reflects on all the work and the students we partner with who drive our work.

“Five years ago, The Last Mile began a heartfelt tradition of having our staff handwrite and send postcards to every student enrolled in our nationwide programs. This initiative was born from our desire to build a stronger connection between The Last Mile and our students. We recognized the emotional challenges of incarceration during the holiday season and wanted to remind our students that they are in our thoughts. These postcards have become a symbol of hope and a reminder that they are valued members of The Last Mile community, fostering a sense of belonging even in difficult times.” said Molly Kelly, Vice President of Programs at The Last Mile.

As a token of our gratitude for our lives back home, TLM staffers have begun writing many letters to our current program participants and alumni. As we reflect on those currently undergoing their restorative journeys as incarcerated students in The Last Classrooms across the country.

“I can’t help but remember those days when everyone around me received mail but me. I hope these postcards get to our students quickly and bring them some TLM joy.”

I remember being on the other side. Holidays are always the most challenging times. I hope to spread a little love and remind our folks how special they are.
