A Second Chance is not Equal to a Fair Chance

The term “second chance” is problematic as it implies a negative judgment about a candidate’s past and suggests they had an unsuccessful “first” chance. Instead, Syd Heller suggests using the term “fair chance” hiring, which promotes the idea of creating fair and equitable hiring practices for all candidates, regardless of their past, to move towards true equity and eliminate prejudices and biases during the hiring process.
